Welcome to Transplant Families
This organization came together as a result of a group of transplant parents that wanted to better their community.
Before the Transplant
We started that vision with wanting to help other parents who are in the very beginning of their journey. The waiting period, pre-transplant, when you have passed from one life threatening diagnosis to the next is a very dark and scary time. Because of the nature of organ failure, your full families full attention is dedicated to your child’s health. Everyday typical concerns like fall away. You relocate your residence to your new hospital home. Everything changes in an instant. It can be very isolating.
As parents of this transplant community, many of our first instincts is to connect. And those that have been there before us often have a need to give back and help. Furthermore, those connections can make this process much easier knowing there are others that have made it through and have children that are healthy and thriving.
During the transplant
During the transplant process, many of us bond with our new extended family, our transplant team. They are always our first and last word for medical advice. We learn from them how this new world of transplant care works. We grow into our new routine, our new normal. And in the next instant life resets.
Post transplant care, although not near as intense, is a life time condition. One that transforms the entire family dynamic. It is a time when the time between clinics grows longer and longer. This is when we start to set out a different set of resources. Non emergent resources that help our child, our family live life to its fullest and really celebrate our child’s gift of life. This is where we get to honor our donor. This can be the really great part. Where the miracles shine through.
Through this life cycle, we get to live an uncommon life. One that’s full of surprises and reminders not to take a moment for granted.
Transplant Families hopes to aid in resources, inspiration and education for our entire pediatric transplant community. That includes our transplant kids, their families, our extended family the transplant team and the many wonderful organizations that assist us. This is one community where we are all truly in it together.
